How can I pay?
Online, we accept donations securely through PayPal — you can pay by debit or credit card through PayPal's checkout, and you do not need a PayPal account to do so. You can also donate by bank transfer or cheque (see below).
How do I donate by bank transfer or send money I've raised?

Yes — we have our own supply division responsible for sourcing and sending goods to the field in the quickest, most efficient and cost-effective way. Please contact us first so we can advise on what's needed.
How do I get a refund?
We're not able to offer a refund if you simply change your mind, as donations are committed to relief work quickly. If you believe a donation was made in error, please contact us on 0207 249 1741 or by email.

Gift Aid

What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that lets charities reclaim the tax already paid on a donation — for every £1 you give, we can claim an extra 25p from HMRC, at no extra cost to you.
Do my donations qualify for Gift Aid?
Your donation qualifies if you're a UK taxpayer and you complete the Gift Aid declaration when you donate. With Gift Aid, every £1 you give is worth £1.25 to Burma Aid, at no extra cost to you.

Zakat & Islamic giving

What is Zakah?
Zakah is the third pillar of Islam. The Qur'an refers to Zakah in 82 separate verses, pairing it with Salah (prayer) in 32 of them. It is an annual, obligatory charity of 2.5% on your qualifying savings, wealth and property.
When do I have to pay Zakah?
Zakah is due once every lunar year. You can fix your own Zakah anniversary date and pay at any point between the start and end of that year.
Who is entitled to receive Zakat?
Under Qur'an 9:60, Zakat may be given to:
  • The poor and the needy
  • Those employed to collect Zakah
  • Those whose hearts are to be reconciled (new Muslims)
  • To free captives
  • Those in debt
  • Those striving in the cause of Allah
  • The traveller cut off from resources
Who cannot receive Zakah?
Zakah cannot be given to:
  • Your own parents, grandparents, children or grandchildren
  • Non-Muslims
  • Funeral clothing (kafan) for a deceased person
  • Repayment of a deceased person's debts
  • A spouse giving to their own husband or wife

Trust, safety & impact

How much do you spend on administration?
For every £1 you donate, £1 goes to those in need — we operate a 100% donation policy. Our administration and advertising costs are covered separately, by a dedicated donor, so nothing is deducted from your gift.
Are you a registered charity, and do you provide proof of my donation?
Yes — we're registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, No. 1159972, and we issue a receipt for every donation.
How do I know my money won't end up in the wrong hands?
We keep a record of every transaction — its ID, date and amount. Our spending, reports and audits are available for donors to view — please contact us if you'd like to see them. Our management also carries out regular field visits to Burma to monitor spending, progress and payments.
What's the difference between Burma Aid and other charities?
Most charities apply a 100% donation policy to Zakat only. We apply it to Zakat, Sadaqah, Lillah and Fitrana.
Do you only help Muslims?
No — we do not discriminate on the basis of gender, disability, race, colour, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religion. If you'd like your donation to support a particular group or project, let us know and we'll be happy to help.
How does my donation make a difference?
Every year we support the Burma Muslim Free Hospital, which gives free healthcare to those who can't afford it — eye care, dentistry, maternity care, dialysis, general operations and more. We build tube wells and hand pumps for clean water, sanitation and hygiene. We fund education for children and adults, and employment training for unemployed young people.
How do I know a fundraiser is genuine?
A genuine Burma Aid fundraiser will carry a letter of authority, ID or badge identifying them, and will be wearing a Burma Aid logo T-shirt, high-visibility vest or jacket.
What should I do if I find a suspicious fundraiser?
Please contact our team by phone, text or email immediately.
Should a fundraiser ever ask for my bank details?
No — our fundraisers will never ask for your bank details. They may ask for a cash donation, and should always be able to show a letter of authority, ID or badge.

Other ways to give

How do I make a donation as a gift for a friend or relative?
Once you've made your donation, please contact our team with the details and we'll take it from there.
How do I leave a gift in my will?
Thank you for thinking of Burma Aid — a legacy gift makes a real contribution to our work for years to come. Let your solicitor know and specify the gift in your will, either as a percentage or a fixed amount, and please let us know too so we can keep a record.
Why is regular giving important?
Regular giving is one of the best ways to support us — it gives us a reliable income to plan our work effectively, respond quickly to disasters and emergencies, and invest in longer-term development. You can set up a regular donation on our Donate page.
Do you take phone calls for a donation?
We don't take phone calls, but we're happy to help by letter, text or email — just get in touch and we can send you a donation form in the post, or you can download one from our website.
